Volunteers
Friends of Humane Society de Tijuana [FHSTJ] is a California not-for-profit

  • Parasite control Street Clinics [Itchy-Scratchy Clinics] which provide service to
    the pets of the poor and also to street animals;
  • Rescue Program which supports HSTJ volunteers doing street rescues; and
  • The Public Education Programs that work with individuals as well as government
    officials in promoting the humane treatment of animals.

Friends of HSTJ Web Site
and the Blog - Friends of HSTJ maintains a comprehensive and current blog with all of
the current news and activity reports along with spectacular photos.
HSTJ is an all volunteer organization and gets no financial support from the
government.  All members, including the board of directors, receive no monetary or
other types of compensation.  Without volunteers, HSTJ could not function.

Our volunteers share a common bond of love and respect for animals.  Each
dedicates time and energy according to their individual abilities and resources.  There
are a variety of tasks for volunteers to perform and each task is important to the
successful operation of the organization and every animal that it helps.

You can save an animal from misery and give it a chance for life.  Here are some of
the many ways our volunteers save the animals from a life of hunger, illness, pain and
fear.  We are few in number, but get spectacular results.

  • Serve as a foster parent for rescued animals - HSTJ does not have sufficient
    resources to run a shelter and depends on volunteers to shelter and foster
    animals until they are ready for adoption;

  • Provide transportation or assist HSTJ members when they make rounds in the
    poorer neighborhoods; - our volunteers visit individual homes as well as vacant
    lots and abandoned buildings bringing food, treating animals for parasites and
    ticks and teaching the people in the area how they can care for the animals and
    assist us in bringing the animals to our sterilization clinics;

  • Assist with pick up of supplies and deliver food - most of our donation of food
    and supplies come from donors in the San Diego area.  We need help
    delivering them to us in Tijuana;

  • Assist members with tasks in the low-cost sterilization clinics - tasks are varied
    to include: help with set-up and registration, cleaning and shaving, preparing
    materials in the operating room, observing animals in the recovery area as well
    as other clinic tasks.  Volunteers can help according to their abilities.
