The Humane Society de Tijuana [HSTJ] is a Mexican humane organization, organized by Mexicans to help solve the problems in Mexico. The HSTJ constantly strives toward goals that are consistent with Mexican law and as they relate to the standards of the International Humane Society. HSTJ is the result of four years of planning efforts on the part of active, hands-on people to bring about a comprehensive, efficient and fiscally responsible organization that can serve the public needs of Tijuana. HSTJ's programs focus on public health, control of overpopulation of unwanted animals, animal welfare and public education. This is accomplished through direct contact with the animals and the general public. HSTJ provides food, supplies, medications and low cost or free spay and neutering. It also provides this support to persons working independently with Tijuana street rescues.

THAN THE WORDS
STREET CLINICS
BEFORE TREATED/ADOPTED
[ITCHY-SCRATCY CLINICS]
HSTJ has re-defined street rescues. Our volunteers still do one-on-one street rescues, but we also have devised another type of rescue, providing care to the pets of the poorest of neighborhoods and encouraging people to bring the street animals too.
Home visit
Many street animals treated at the street clinics are then adopted by a neighborhood or individuals because they no longer have diseases and are safe to be around family members
RESCUES
Rescue and give veterinary medical attention as well as rehabilitation to those animals that are found to be malnourished, have parasites, mange, fleas, ticks, and a host of other problems while relying on the free services, or services at cost, from volunteer veterinarians and also relying on members to provide free custodial care in their own homes until such animals can be adopted by responsible pet owners

HSTJ is an all volunteer organization and gets no financial support from the government. All members, including the board of directors, receive no monetary or other types of compensation. Without volunteers, HSTJ could not function.
Our volunteers share a common bond of love and respect for animals. Each dedicates time and energy according to their individual abilities and resources. There are a variety of tasks for volunteers to perform and each task is important to the successful operation of the organization and every animal that it helps.
You can save an animal from misery and give it a chance for life. Here are some of the many ways our volunteers save the animals from a life of hunger, illness, pain and fear. We are few in number but get spectacular results.
BEFORE AFTER
A HAPPY ANIMAL IS OUR BEST REWARD
Serve as a foster parent for rescued animals
HSTJ does not have sufficient resources to run a shelter and depends on volunteers to shelter and foster animals until they are ready for adoption.
Provide transportation or assist HSTJ members when they make rounds in the poorer neighborhoods
Our volunteers visit individual homes as well as vacant lots and abandoned buildings bringing food, treating animals for parasites and tics and teaching the people in the area how they can care for the animals and assist us in bringing the animals to our sterilization clinics
Assist with pick up of supplies and deliver food
Most of our donations of food and supplies come from donors in the San Diego area. We need help delivering them to us in Tijuana
Assist members with tasks in the low-cost sterilization clinic
Tasks are varied and include: Help with set up and registering, cleaning and shaving, preparing materials in the operating room, observing animals in the recovery area and as well as other clinic tasks. Volunteers can help according to their abilities.
If you can't volunteer but want to help, you can send a donation.
